TDK showcased its full line of Blu-ray Disc media at International CES, and touted two recent awards.
The company received a CES Innovations Award as the first company to ship Blu-ray Discs last year with its 25GB BD-R and BD-RE media.
The company said it will begin shipping dual-layer 50GB Blu-ray Discs early this year, and added that its thermal and inkjet printable BD-R discs, announced last April, will begin shipping in the second quarter. Using a DVD/CD compatible thermal or inkjet printer, users can print custom text and graphics directly on each disc's label-side surface. The discs incorporate TDK's advanced Durabis hard-coating technology.
TDK also announced that its line of CD-R and CD-RW packaging has been recognized with a Creativity Award.
First launched in 1970, the Creativity Awards is one of the most esteemed graphic design competitions, according to TDK. The annual competition culminates with the publication of the Creativity Annual, a 400 page, full-color hard cover book.
The packaging will be showcased in the Creativity 36 Annual, which will be published in the summer of 2007 by HarperCollins.
The packaging was designed by Interrobang Design Collaborative of Richmond, Vt.
"We're pleased that TDK's CD-R and CD-RW packaging has been recognized for its exceptional design. Our CD-R and CD-RW packaging not only has a progressive, stylish appearance, but also clearly communicates key product features while standing out from crowded retail displays," commented Sethu Palat, TDK's marketing director. "Our design team is second to none in terms of innovation and originality."
