Royal Philips Electronics is teaming with Italian furniture maker and designer Giulio Cappellini to design, manufacture and market an exclusive range of furniture featuring integrated home entertainment products.
The seven-piece line, called Fluid Landscapes, incorporates several Philips products — including two flat-screen television models, a DVD home entertainment system, an LCD projector and a Pronto Pro universal remote control — into sofas, sideboards and shelving units.
The project builds on the idea of creating a home in which the relationship between spaces and functions is fluid, mobile and interchangeable — thus doing away with the idea that an entertainment area is limited to a specific corner of the home.
In one piece, called Bookcase, a Philips 42-inch plasma-screen television and its tuner box, plus a DVD system and speakers have been built into a stainless steel bookcase on a revolving stand.
The furniture will be marketed through U.S. stores selling Cappellini products and Cappellini showrooms. Suggested retails and availability have not been set.
