Sanus Systems and OmniMount have recently bowed versions of an in-wall box designed to complement traditional mounts and to help consumers to make their flat-panels rest flush with the wall.

Model LR1A from Sanus Systems can be used with a number of the company's wall mounts so that practically any TV from 15 inches to 50 inches can be mounted and then pulled out and pushed back to the wall according to the viewer's needs. The box is constructed with heavy-gauge steel and is to be installed in sheetrock between wood studs; mounting hardware is provided.

The Sanus model is available in silver, black or a white finish that can be painted. The LR1A features cutouts for signal and power cables and is currently available at a suggested retail of $269.

Similarly, OmniMount's ShadowBox series is designed to complement several OmniMount flat-panel mounts. Model SB1 is its medium in-wall box. The product is available now at a suggested retail of $149. It features two single-gang j-box slots, an integrated sheet-metal flange and double-stud mounting. According to the company, the mount can accommodate power management solutions by Panamax and Furman, and it can be painted to match any wall.
