Memorex announced several additions to its specialty optical media product family during International CES, including new LightScribe printable CD-R, 8x double-layer DVD+R and double-layer mini DVD+R media.

Memorex LightScribe Cool Colors CD media adds five jewel-toned background colors to the line.

With LightScribe discs, users can create photo, music and data CDs with custom-printed labels featuring red, orange, yellow, blue and green backgrounds using a LightScribe-enabled optical drive. The labels can incorporate photos, graphics and text. A user burns the data side of the disc as usual, then flips the disc over and uses the same drive to burn a custom label.

Memorex LightScribe Cool Colors CD-R media will be available in March in packages of 10 for a suggested retail of $9.99 and packages of 20 for a suggested retail of $17.99.

Memorex also souped up its double-layer DVD lineup with the availability of 8x double-layer DVD+R media. The discs allow consumers to archive up to 8.5GB of data files or 240 minutes of video in standard play mode on a single disc.

With 55 a percent market share in double-layer DVD media, according to The NPD Group, Memorex also will continue to offer 2.4x speed media, providing consumers with more compatibility options.

Memorex 8x double-layer DVD+R media is now available in packages of 10 for a suggested retail of $27.99.

Also shown was double-layer mini DVD+R media which delivers up to 55 minutes (2.6GB) of continuous recording time with no need to flip the disc.

The discs are compatible with select direct-to-DVD camcorders from Samsung and Sony, and also work in most DVD burners and players with double layer DVD+R compatibility. A package of three Memorex double-layer mini DVD+R discs with jewel cases will be available in February for a suggested retail of $19.99.
