CE Entertainment Furniture Flexes Its Muscle

Flexibility plays an increasingly dominant role in design of home entertainment furniture — tied to a broadening range of product engineered for direct-view or projection sets and new-wave plasma display units.

At the same time, entertainment furniture is undergoing a growth spurt to accommodate the increasing popularity of larger and wider televisions as well as king-size and multiple audio components.

In small office/home office (SO/HO) furniture, design complements function, allowing the largest number of eye-pleasing display pieces in the smallest possible space.

Acoustic Innovations, supplier of Theater in the Home seating, has added Charleton to its CinemaChair line of recliner models.

Available in a variety of fabrics, suede, velvet and leather grades and colors, suggested retail from the Boca Raton, Fla.-based company is $3,095 for a group of two Charleton seats.

In direct response to ever-changing technology and the requirements of electronic components, Becker Designed (BDI) has introduced its Axis collection, said to be strong, flexible and beautiful. Axis is available in stained cherry, cognac and black finishes from the Chantilly, Va.-based BDI. Suggested retail range for the Axis line is $595 to $985, while top-of-the-line model 8028, which holds up to a 50-inch TV, has a suggested $985 retail.

A luxurious piece of furniture suited for the finest homes is available from Morganville, N.J.-based Bell’O International. Called the AVSC-2500, this audio/video system offers home theater enthusiasts a wood, glass and aluminum piece that accommodates up to a 40-inch direct-view television, tabletop projection or plasma TV, and up to five or more A/V components, plus a center channel speaker. Suggested retail is $1,800.

Carina Furniture Industries is introducing its Classic furniture line, including the Classic Entertainment Center ENT7662P.

The A/V cabinet, from the Brampton, Ontario-based company, offers the look of case goods along with the low cost of ready-to-assemble furniture. Suggested retail is $199.99

Domestically manufactured with leathers from around the world, the Barbados Home Theater seat, from Hurst, Texas-based Continental Seating, combines the look of fine home furniture with the comfort and conveniences of theater seating. Exaggerated rolled arms and dramatic concave design add glamour to any setting. Suggested retail starts at just over $2,300, depending on selected features.

Contemporary styling highlights a home entertainment TV stand, from Appomattox, Va.-based Creative Interiors. Model 119-055 comes in a black finish with chrome accents and has tubular chrome finish support legs. Suggested retail is $49.99.

Designed for both direct view and projection televisions up to 73 inches, the Visalia Plus 500-2 Home Theater Furniture System, from Yorba Linda, Calif.-based Diamond Case Designs, consists of five pieces that vary, depending on the television used. By adhering to a common layout, the system is available in any of the finishes and styles for a suggested $3,699 retail for a projection TV and $3,899 for a direct-view unit.

Gruga USA/Novimex Fashion, City of Industry, Calif., is debuting a full line of fashion-forward chairs designed and engineered to provide exceptional back support and seating comfort. Introductions include the Samsonite Wood & Leather Executive Chair in black leather, wood arms and coordinated arched wood base. Suggested retails have yet to be set.

To complement its Stealth Series, Gusdorf has expanded the line to include a TV Credenza and Entertainment Center. Model 33321 Projection Television Unit with Model 12621 TV Credenza can hold all 36-inch televisions and any size projection TV.

Model 56108 Computer Cart from the Laval, Quebec-based Gusdorf is part of the company’s Urban Stylz Collection. Suggested retails for both the Stealth Series and Stylz Collection range from $49 to $499.

The IC Lights Division of Lakeville, Mass.-based ImageCrafters is introducing Triangle to its line of low-voltage wall sconce fixtures. The metal wall sconce is available is six finishes — black, white, nickel, brushed nickel, penny and brass. Suggested retails vary from $126 to $144, depending on finish.

The Prelude, from Laurier Furniture, is designed for home theater users, and offers independent lighting in each of its sections. The furniture from the Laurier Station, Quebec-based company, is available in two different shades of maple wood and in a high gloss black lacquer. Suggested retail for the Prelude is $3,999.

Matrix Series from Placentia, Calif.-based Lovan is a modular, open frame A/V rack that is both chic and functional. The Hi-Fi, equipped with one 4-inch and three 9-inch frames, four light-cherry shelves and adjustable isolation cones and footers, has a suggested $369 retail. The AVR, with one 4-inch and two 9-inch frames, offers three light-cherry shelves and adjustable isolation cones and footers. Suggested retail is $449.

The LedaDesk Downview Collection from Effingham, Ill.-based Nova Solutions features an RTA computer desk with ergonomic benefits. Called Model DL-012, the desk can hold up to a 19-inch monitor. Suggested retail is $225.

Office Star said its new Scooter chair has been well received. The new series from the Ontario, Calif.-based company, is available in a variety of colors. Suggested retail varies from area to area, but should range between $99 and $139.

A contemporary furniture ensemble comprising two audio towers and one TV table to provide storage for A/V components and personal accessories is available from Phoenix-based OmniMount. Called the Cosmic Home Theater System, the RTA construction unit has a scratch-resistant gray satin powder coat finish. Suggested retail is $1,399.85.

The modular SO/HO Networx Office System from Lamar, Mo.-based O’Sullivan Furniture points up Intelligent Designs as its hot new product. With this modular system, furniture can be configured for any size or shape office. Available to ship Oct. 15, suggested retail for the Intelligent Designs group is $1,500.

Premiere Home Theatre Surroundings, Agoura Hills, Calif., is introducing its Grand model entertainment chair, designated as higher-end theater seating at more affordable price points. It breaks the $1,000 suggested retail barrier.

New from Salamander Designs, Theater Chair Model One is designed to offer comfort and smart styling at a great price point. Made in Sweden for the Hartford, Conn.-based company, Model One offers a sculptural shape at $899 retail.

The hottest color combo for home theater enthusiasts is charcoal gray and platinum silver, according to St. Paul, Minn.-based Sanus Systems, maker of Sanus Platinum A/V furniture that matches new name-brand HDTVs and digital A/V components. It has a suggested retail range of $250 to $350.

In response to demand for home entertainment furniture that fits today’s larger projection- and flat-screen televisions, Sauder Woodworking is introducing its Willow Falls Collection, designed to hold most 36- and 40-inch TVs.

Debuting at the Archbold, Ohio company are six entertainment pieces at a suggested retail range of $200 to $600 and four home office pieces at a suggested retail range of $170 to $600.

Sonus Systems, of the United Kingdom, is offering a wide variety of hi-fi and A/V racks, along with speaker stands and a CD rack. Williston, Vt.-based Artech Electronics is handling exclusive distribution of the home entertainment furniture. The Elite 900 A/V Rack has suggested retails of $599, $799 and $949 for 2-tier, 3-tier and 4-tier models.

A contemporary design highlights the Nautical Entertainment Center from Pico Rivera, Calif.-based Studio RTA. It retails for $79.99.

Targeting plasma television consumers who wish to use furniture, rather than a wall-mount option, Irvine, Calif.-based StudioTech is offering its Delta A/V Component Furniture Rack with classic design and elegant styling. Suggested retail is $899.

Three chairs are being added to the DreamLounger home theater line from Chicago-based Theatre Design Associates. Jazz, standard at $1,500 suggested retail, $1,700 as a recliner/rocker, was created with a curvaceous, smooth design to add a contemporary look to any home theater.

Vogel’s is offering a complete line of upscale furniture made in The Netherlands of typical European design. The furniture is silver in color and includes several layers of paint to make it scratch resistant. Cabinets, from Chicago-based Vogel’s, have suggested retails ranging from $800 to $1,400.
