ATLANTA — Case-mate recently introduced the Hug, a protective case and charging pad combination for the iPhone 3G and 3G S.

The Hug operates by slipping the iPhone into the case and placing it on the charging pad. Features include smart charge, so it stops pulling power once a complete charge has been reached, and a charging time that is the same as standard wired chargers. The two-part shock-absorbing case and mat are made of injection-molded materials and aluminum metal, and come with a screen-protection kit.

Case-mate said the Hug is the first charging pad to be is designed in accordance to the specifications of the Wireless Power Consortium, and that versions for additional mobile devices will become available. A Hug that supports the charging of multiple devices simultaneously will also become available, it said.

The Hug for the iPhone is currently available for a $99.99 suggested retail.
