Belkin recently introduced a variety of computer accessories, including a cooling stand, battery backup with flashlight and a KVM switch.
The laptop cooling stand is powered by the computer's USB port. Its wave design creates a channel between the laptop and the stand to assist in natural airflow, and unlike other laptop fans that draw heat down to push it out, Belkin's cooling stand's fan reportedly takes advantage of heat's natural tendancy to rise by pushing hot air upward through the channel and away from the laptop. Its gentle slope also improves typing comfort and reduces wrist strain, according to the company, and it raises the screen height to further help reduce wrist strain. It has a $29.99 suggested retail.
The company's battery backup with rechargeable LED flashlight is meant to protect equipment and data, while also safeguarding personal security. The detachable flashlight turns on immediately when the power goes off, and the battery backup keeps connected equipment on, designed to provide ample time to shut down and prevent any data loss or hardware damage.
For $99.99, it also provides a cable-management loop, and has a550VA battery-load capacity for approximately 20 minutes of backup time (dependent upon what equipment is connected). It offers four battery-backup outlets and surge protection; two surge-protected outlets; and one-in, two-out telephone/fax surge protection.
Finally, the company's Flip DVI-D ($149.99) is designed to enable users to share a keyboard, mouse, speakers and DVI monitor for both computers. A remote button allows users to flip between your computers. It supports both single-link (1,920 by 1,200) and dual-link (2,560 by 1,600) video modes, and it reportedly provides full support for all USB-based Mac and PC keyboards, including special function keys. The Flip DVI-D has a two-color LED that indicates which computer it is accessing.
