Battery Band Juices
Power-Thirsty Apple Watch
IRVINE, CALIF. —
Hoping to counteract the Apple Watch’s biggest concern — its short battery life — WiPowerBand.com is readying a battery extender that will attach to the smart watch.

A compact battery and wireless power transmitter is embedded in the band, designed to fit beneath the watch. Current estimates show the WiPowerBand can nearly double the battery life of the Apple Watch, the company said. The WiPowerBand charges via an Apple Lightning cable.

It will be available in 38mm and 42mm sizes and in several colors when it ships this spring. Suggested retail starts at $89.00.

Monoprice Joins The
USB-C Bandwagon
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CALIF. — Monoprice has announced the availability of its first line of USB-C (USB 3.1) cables and adapters.

The company has also created a micro site to educate consumers on USB-C’s benefits.

The USB-C connector will be compatible with Apple’s new line of MacBooks and Microsoft’s new Surface 3.0 tablet, as well as other devices expected to be released this year. The universal connector is capable of twice the theoretical amount of speed of USB 3.0, supporting a top speed of 10Gbps; with a power output of up to 20 volts (100 watts) and 5 amps, it can charge most notebook computers in the time most tablets and smartphones are now charged.

Monoprice’s line consists of a 3.1 USB-C to USB-C cable ($24.99 retail); a 2.0 USB-C to USB-A cable ($9.99); a USB-C to USB 3.0 A/F ($11.99); a USB-C to DisplayPort cable ($34.99); and a USB-C to HDMI adapter ($34.99).
