M-Edge Launches
Cover-Design Website
ODENTON, MD. — M-Edge Accessories
launched a website that lets consumers
design and personalize protective
jackets for the Nook, Kindle and
iPad.
The site, known as MyEdge, has a
Style Library that features artwork exclusively
commissioned from such artists
as Amy Ruppel and Christopher Bettig.
It also contains cover artwork from
past issues of The New Yorker; NCAAlicensed
logos; and a variety of book
cover artwork, including “Moby Dick,”
“Catch 22,” “Slaughterhouse 5” and
“One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.”
Consumers can choose from a black
or mocha microfiber leather spine and
stitching accents for the jacket. Once
the jacket is approved and finalized, the
design is printed on canvas using ecofriendly
water-based inks, M-Edge said,
and each jacket is coated with Scotchgard
protection.
Covers for the Kindle and Nook will
be $40, while iPad covers will be $50. It
takes approximately two weeks for consumers
to receive their jackets.
Altec Lansing Intros
Video iPod Dock
MILFORD, PA. — Altec Lansing introduced
on Tuesday the new Octiv 650
docking speaker system for the iPhone
and iPod Touch, which delivers audio
and displays full-screen video from the
Apple device onto a TV screen.
Consumers can also use the company’s
free Music Mood app for preloaded
sounds and videos, such as a fireplace
or a river stream. The app also has a
seven-band graphic equalizer.
Features include wedge shape with
flat front panel, two 3-inch full-range
drivers, and a nested 4-inch subwoofer
for deep bass.
Users can watch videos with the Octiv
650 by using the component and
composite video-out jacks. A second
audio device can be also added through
the auxiliary input, and a remote lets users
control the audio and navigate their
device from across the room. The Octiv
650 automatically pauses when a call is
received on an iPhone, the company said.
It will be available in black and slate in
May for $199.
Apptwee Bows Apple
Remote App, Dongle
SUNNYVALE, CALIF. — Apptwee has
released the RI universal remote control
for iPad and iPhone.
The Apptwee RI device, which is
priced at $19.99, along with the free
app, turns an iPhone or iPad into a remote
control that replaces “all other” IR
controls, the company said.
The device, which is no larger than a
U.S. quarter, plugs into the iPhone or
iPad audio jack and can control a database
of products currently at 225 popular
brands, more than 72 device types,
and 845 models of TVs, home entertainment,
automation and lighting systems,
computers, projectors and other IR-controlled
devices.
The RI requires no batteries or charging,
weighs a fraction of an ounce, fits in
your pocket, can travel anywhere and is
simple to use, Apptwee said.
If a call comes in on the iPhone, it
can be answered via the speaker mode.
Once the call is over, the RI resumes at
the last-used remote control user interface,
the company said.
The RI is compatible with any Apple
iPhone or iPad device that supports OS
version 4.2 or higher, including iPhone
3G, 3GS, and 4G, and the iPod Touch
2G and higher. It is currently available
at
Amazon.com and the RI app is downloadable
for free from the Apple App
Store.
